Kia ora and welcome to the
Tainui Kāwhia Incorporation Forest
Tainui Kāwhia Incorporation allows visitors to explore our forest. Please respect the forest's mauri by taking your rubbish, staying on tracks, and not disturbing plants and animals. Report hazards, illegal activities, or pest signs to our forest manager. Follow signage and staff directions to protect sensitive areas and conservation efforts.
How do I get permission to enter the forest?
Step 1- Download and install the Onside Visitor Management App (Apple/The App Store) or (Android/Play Store).
Step 2- Register with Onside. All visitors, contractors and public are required to register with the app. All applications are received and approved by the forestry manager.
Step 3- Within the app- Read through and acknowledge the Induction to the Forest and Health and Safety Information. Read the section, Evacuating the forest in the event of a fire.
Step 4-Acknowledge all of the hazards listed on the app. This is important as the app outlines areas of NO-GO. Some of these hazard areas may include, but are not exclusive to harvesting operation, tractor or machinery operation, and/or forest maintenance.
You are good to go. Enjoy.
But I’m only going to Ocean Beach?
If you are heading down to Tom French Grove (Ocean Beach/Te Puia Hot Springs’) via Te Puia Road, there is no need to sign into the Onside app. Everyone is welcome to enjoy our beautiful coastline.
Fire danger is an ever-present concern within the forest for us and the entire Kāwhia community.
Remember-If you see smoke or fire in the forest
Call 111 Immediately
